Meet Our Trainers

Man holding two black puppies in field

David Hughes

I am a keen outdoorsman and shot, and love working with dogs. Whether walking on a beach, in the countryside, out shooting, stalking, or wild fowling, my dogs come everywhere. I have trained many and made mistakes along the way, so you don't have to. I have owned pointers, springadors, labradors, and working cockers and trained nearly all their variants, and they all have their individual scruples and characters. I love helping owners get to know what their dogs might be thinking and how to keep them on their side.

Dave Bazen

Dave has been fascinated by gundogs since his teens, cocker spaniels in particular. Dave has three cockers in his kennels at the moment and is to be found most Saturdays beating and picking up at local Hampshire shoots. Dave is a spaniel specialist and can help sort out the most common dog problems. He lives in Farnborough with his wife and young family. Like David, Dave is also a keen fisherman and shot.

FAQ

How do I know which class or training option is right for my dog?

The best thing is to give us a call or drop us a line, and we can come back to you in terms of what will be most suitable.

We always start with an Initial Assessment or Start Your Puppy Right session. This gives us a chance to meet you and your dog, understand your goals, and recommend the most suitable next step - whether that’s classes, one-to-one training, or potentially a course.

Do I need to book an assessment before joining classes?

Yes, we ask that we meet you for an Initial Assessment or Start Your Puppy Right session first. This ensures your dog is placed into the right environment and training level.

How do I book and manage sessions online?

You can download the Gundog Bootcamp app or book online on the website. The first time you book you’ll be asked to create a quick account. Once you’ve created an account, you’ll be able to book sessions, buy class packs, join waitlists, and manage upcoming appointments online or through the app.

How far in advance can I book?

Classes and training sessions can be booked up to 28 days in advance.

Bookings for group classes close 48 hours before the class start time. One-to-one appointments can be booked up to 12 hours before the session, subject to availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that plans change. Classes and training sessions can be cancelled or rescheduled through your Gundog Bootcamp app or your online account up to 12 hours before the session start time. Late cancellations or missed sessions may result in the loss of that class credit.

If you’re booked onto a course or class pack, please manage any changes through the booking system wherever possible.

What happens if a class is full?

If a class is full, you can join the waitlist. If a space becomes available, you’ll automatically be moved into the class and notified by email or app notification.

Please note that once you’ve been added from the waitlist into a class, the normal cancellation policy will apply.

Can nervous, reactive, or inexperienced dogs attend?

Yes. Many dogs come to us needing confidence, structure, or help around other dogs and environments. If you’re unsure which option is best, an Initial Assessment is the best place to start so we can recommend the right approach for your dog.

Do you only train gundog breeds?

Our training is designed primarily around gundog breeds and the instincts, behaviours, and working traits that come with them. We also work with many cross breeds, particularly those with gundog lines or similar temperaments and training needs.

If you’re unsure whether Gundog Bootcamp is the right fit for your dog, please get in touch before booking and we’ll be happy to advise.
